minivan mommy moment

When I met my husband, I drove a bright red Chevy Silverado with a license plate on the front bumper that said "How Hot? You'll never know!". Ironically, he also drove a bright red Chevy Silverado! Both were 4 wheel drive, 5.7L engines, extended cab... I won't bore you with details! :) But needless to say, I really loved my truck and it looked pretty neat the first year we were married with two of them parked in front of our first home!

After our first child was born, we decided that having two Silverado's would not be very practical... LOL... and it was a wonderful coincidence that my sister was moving into downtown Philadelphia where parking is over $400 a spot and she could ride the train to work. So I sold my big red truck and bought her Chevy Trailblazer. It was a comfortable transition, truck to suv, the engine was only a V6 but I still had a hitch! (for my "someday I want to own a horse" dreams that have been put on hold for another decade)

When I became pregnant with our third child, I remember looking at my boys and thinking "how are we going to put a newborn between these two!?!?!". So this brings me to the present... my minivan mommy moment...

But minivans are for PTO moms, soccer moms, daycare moms, moms of multiples, and... well... other women... not like me... I drive a truck - errr... an SUV! yeah I drive an SUV!! I may be a mommy, but I still like to go 'muddin' in a muddy field and do donuts in gravel! I have four wheel drive so I won't ever get stuck in the snow!

big sigh...

What I have come to realize is that I am now totally a mom... I don't wear lil "runs like a deere" t-shirts with tight jeans anymore... I don't change my purse two or three times a week to match my shoes... I don't coordinate dangly earrings with bangle bracelets... I don't even blow dry my hair anymore because I shower the night before!!!

My days are measured in diapers and sippy cups... My clothes are purchased with thoughts in mind such as "Is this shirt going to be nursing accessible?", "Will it hold up to 20 washes and 20 spot stain treatments?", and "Will Downey-dewrinkle be all the ironing it requires to be presentable?"...

Which brings us to the minivan... doors that slide open so toddlers can't accidently dent another parked car... a large enough trunk to accommodate a double stroller AND groceries... when family comes to visit we won't have to take two separate vehicles... and my three children who are perfectly spaced (22 month gap both times) won't be able touch one another! LOL

So yes, we are minivan shopping... This is a going to be a good practical vehicle for long road trips... Very handy in a snowstorm or rainstorm when we can all pile in and I can walk around doing seatbelts after I close the door behind me... With future deployments on the horizon, this will be great for carpooling with other moms... Comfortable when the grandparents come to visit...

Yes... I can freely admit this... I am a minivan mommy...
And I am excited about it... really... I am...

"Hunny? Does it have a V6 engine and a hitch?"
